About Dankort The story about Dankort
Dankort was launched in 1983 and its launch gave Danish consumers an alternative to cash, cheques and foreign cards. In 2015, contactless payments with Dankort became possible, making payments both faster and more secure. Contactless payments were adopted more readily in Denmark than anywhere else in the world, and now more than 80% of all Dankort transactions are contactless.
In 2022 it became possible to add Dankort to Apple Pay and that way use the iPhone or Apple Watch as alternatives to the physical Dankort.
A secure means of payment
Recent measures have increased the security of Dankort payments. Since the addition of the chip solution, not a single case of a counterfeit Dankort chip has been recorded. Furthermore, the introduction of the contactless Dankort made it harder for fraudsters to skim a PIN in payment situations, as no PIN is used for contactless payments.
For online shopping too, Dankort is a secure means of payment that has become even more secure since the introduction of the Dankort Secured by Nets online security solution, which requires text message approval upon payment.
