Dankort Chargebacks

As a consumer, in certain situations you may have the option to have a purchase charged back.

You should contact your bank as soon as possible after becoming aware that there is problem with a purchase. If you file a dispute promptly, ideally within 14 days of becoming aware of the problem, you can be sure that your dispute was made in time.

Before contacting your bank, you should first try to resolve the issue with the merchant. However, this does not apply if the merchant has gone bankrupt or if you suspect fraud. If the merchant does not respond to your inquiry or does not attempt to resolve the issue, you should contact your bank as soon as possible, ideally within 1-2 months.

When contacting your bank, you must be able to document your claim. You can do this, for example, by providing email correspondence, an invoice, and/or the order confirmation from the merchant or a printout from the merchant’s website. You can always ask your bank what documentation is required for your specific case.

Even if you are not entitled to a refund through your bank, you may still have a claim against the merchant, and you may also have the option to file a complaint with the Consumer Complaints Board.

Payments You Did Not Approve (Unauthorized Payments)

You may also be eligible for a refund of an unauthorized payment, such as if the merchant has charged an amount that you did not approve or initiate. If you decide to request a refund for an unauthorized payment, you must act as soon as possible after becoming aware of the unauthorized payment. In any case, you must contact your bank no later than 13 months after the payment has been withdrawn from your account.
